Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to visit Gurugram Jail on Saturday to meet former Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal will also accompany him during this visit. This marks the first instance since Arora’s arrest by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) that the party’s top leadership will visit him in jail.
The ED arrested Sanjeev Arora in connection with a money laundering case. Following his arrest, the agency initially secured a seven-day remand for him. Subsequently, the court granted an additional two-day remand. Upon the completion of the interrogation, the court remanded Arora to judicial custody for 14 days, sending him to jail. The ED is currently investigating certain matters related to financial transactions and business activities. AAP Accuses Centre of Vendetta
The Aam Aadmi Party has consistently alleged that this action is politically motivated and driven by a spirit of vendetta. Party leaders contend that the Central Government is utilizing investigative agencies to exert pressure on opposition leaders. Against this backdrop, the visit of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal to the jail is being viewed as a significant political statement by the party. Arora: An Influential Figure in the Business World
Sanjeev Arora has long been regarded as an influential figure within both the political landscape of Punjab and the business community. After joining the Aam Aadmi Party, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha and was also considered to hold a strong grip within the party organization.
Since his arrest, the opposition has been continuously raising questions regarding the Punjab government and the AAP leadership. Coming ahead of the local body elections, this meeting may also be part of a strategic effort to keep party workers united and to demonstrate solidarity with the leadership.
