Ranjit Singh—the husband of Manjit Kaur, the Chairperson of the Dirba Panchayat Samiti—who fell victim to a honeytrap, allegedly attempted suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance out of fear of public disgrace. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in critical condition.
After receiving preliminary treatment, doctors referred him to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, where he is currently undergoing treatment. A woman, in collusion with her accomplices, ensnared Ranjit Singh in a honeytrap and subsequently demanded ₹5 lakh, threatening to file a false rape case against him. Distraught by this ordeal, Ranjit Singh took this drastic step.
**Entrapped in a Premeditated Honeytrap**
Ranjit Singh’s father, Gurmel Singh, alleged that his son was being blackmailed after being ensnared in a premeditated honeytrap orchestrated by a young woman. A woman had maintained contact with Ranjit Singh for several days under the pretext of helping him secure a loan. On May 18, the woman invited him to meet her and subsequently took him to her home. While they were there, four or five other individuals arrived at the scene. Gurmel Singh stated that the accused forcibly took photographs of his son and the woman together, and then demanded ₹5 lakh while threatening to implicate his son in a rape case.
Ranjit Singh was also forced to sign certain documents under duress. Overwhelmed by the immense mental pressure and the alleged blackmail, Ranjit Singh took this extreme step. Ranjit Singh is employed as a peon at the Punjab and Sind Bank.
**Case Registered Against Six Accused, Including Two Women**
