The daughter of a missing Australian citizen has appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for assistance in locating her father. On May 22, 66-year-old Australian citizen Sunil Sharma went missing in Amritsar. He had traveled there in connection with the sale of a property. Sharma also owns a home in Mohali.
His family in Australia has been unable to establish contact with Sharma since May 22, as his mobile phone has remained switched off. This case has also garnered significant attention in the Australian media.
According to the investigation conducted by the Amritsar Rural Police, Sunil Sharma’s brother, Sunny Sharma, is the prime suspect in this case. Sunny has also gone missing along with his family. In a video message, Sunil Sharma’s daughter, Surbhi Sharma, appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab to help in the search for her father. Surbhi stated, “I am seeking help to bring my father back. My father has been missing from Amritsar since May 22. We have not received any information regarding his whereabouts so far. His phone is switched off.”
Sunil Sharma is a mathematics teacher based in Melbourne. His daughter mentioned, “My father is a Punjabi, and he holds a deep love for Punjab.” She added that his affection for the region was such that he invested his money in purchasing property there. Surbhi explained that her father had traveled to Amritsar specifically to oversee painting work being done on that property. She appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state government to deploy all available resources to locate him, pleading, “Please bring him back home.”
She further revealed that Sunny Sharma had been spotted in the vicinity of the property and shared photographs of him as well.
The Amritsar Police have registered an FIR for kidnapping in connection with this case. When asked about Sunny’s whereabouts, Shamsher Singh, the SHO of the Kamboh Police Station, stated that he is currently absconding along with his family. “We will apprehend him soon,” he assured, adding that the investigation has progressed significantly. The official stated that Sunny is also absconding in an FIR registered by the Himachal Pradesh Police under the ‘Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act’.
