Following the rainfall over the past few days, a significant improvement has been recorded in Chandigarh’s air quality. On Monday, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 72, pushing the city back into the ‘Green Zone.’ Prior to this, for several days, the city’s AQI had remained above 100, and the air quality was being categorized as merely ‘satisfactory.’
According to data from various air quality monitoring stations across the city, the AQI was recorded at 93 in Sector 22, 50 in Sector 25, and 74 in Sector 53. Among these locations, Sector 25 enjoyed the cleanest air. While the AQI in Sector 22 remained higher compared to other areas, it too stayed within the safe category.
According to officials from the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), the rain caused dust and pollutant particles present in the atmosphere to settle on the ground, thereby clearing the air. Specifically, the air quality has improved due to a reduction in fine particulate matter such as PM 2.5 and PM 10.
**More Rain Expected on June 3rd and 4th**
The weather in Chandigarh took another turn on Monday. The day remained partly cloudy, although a mild warmth was still felt. The temperature remained 3.2 degrees below normal. The city’s maximum temperature was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature stood at 22.8 degrees Celsius—which is 2.4 degrees lower than normal.
According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, residents are set to receive relief from the heat once again very soon. The weather center has issued an alert for several parts of Chandigarh for the period between June 3rd and June 5th. During this time, there is a likelihood of strong winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. In light of this, people have been advised to stay in safe locations during the inclement weather. While a slight rise in temperature was recorded over the past 24 hours, it remains significantly below normal levels. Chandigarh is expected to experience partly cloudy skies from June 2 to June 4. Additionally, there is a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. On June 5, the sky will remain predominantly cloudy. Meanwhile, on June 6, there are renewed chances of dust storms and showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.
