Incidents of theft in the district show no signs of abating. In the latest cases, thieves targeted a government office and a warehouse, stealing goods worth lakhs of rupees. The police have registered cases against unidentified suspects in both incidents and have initiated investigations.
According to police officials, separate cases have been registered for both incidents, and investigations are underway. Footage from CCTV cameras installed near the crime scenes is being examined, and efforts are being made to identify the perpetrators.
A theft was reported at the Legal Metrology Department office located near ITI Chowk in the Civil Lines police station area. A case was registered based on a complaint by Department Inspector Mandeep Singh, stating that on the night of June 8, unidentified thieves broke the office locks and entered the premises.
The thieves stole four working standards, a wooden tripod, iron test weights, a challan register, and eight hand-held drill machines. The police have registered a case against unknown suspects based on the complaint.
Meanwhile, a major theft has also been reported at the Saraswati Warehouse in Mehta village, falling under the Sangat police station area. Rohit Kumar Walia, Regional Manager of Global Warehouse, stated in his complaint to the police that on the night of March 29–30, unidentified thieves broke the warehouse lock, entered the premises, and stole 198 bags of rice. The matter was reported to the police after a search conducted at their own level yielded no clues.
