Singer murdered in 2022
Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was murdered on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village, Mansa district. That incident also involved the use of modern weaponry, including the highly lethal, Turkish-made Zigana pistol and the AK-47. Murder of Baba Siddique
On the night of October 12, 2024, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was murdered in Mumbai’s Bandra area; assailants fired a volley of bullets at him outside the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique. A Zigana pistol was used in this murder as well. The killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was carried out by shooters from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Assassination of Atiq Ahmed: On April 15, 2023, while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj, Atiq Ahmed was shot dead in a hail of bullets fired by shooters using this very pistol.
What are the features of the Zigana pistol?
Only three to four rounds can be fired consecutively with ordinary pistols. Locally made pistols often malfunction—for instance, the bullet might get stuck in the barrel—but this does not happen with the Zigana.
Dozens of rounds can be fired in rapid succession with the Zigana pistol. It produces minimal recoil, ensuring pinpoint accuracy; this is why gangsters prefer using it.
The Zigana is lightweight and features a modified Browning-type locking system.
It has a double-action trigger unit, an exposed hammer, a slide-mounted safety, an automatic firing pin block, and fixed three-dot sights. It accommodates a double-stack magazine; the standard capacity is 15 rounds, while the extended capacity is 17 rounds. The mechanism ensures the bullet never jams.
The Turkey-made Zigana costs between four and five lakh rupees. Smugglers charge gangsters based on their existing connections.
