To apprehend heroin and arms smugglers, the Amritsar Rural Police issued a ‘Red Alert’ on Tuesday night and set up checkpoints across the area. Police had received intelligence that a gang of smugglers was planning to move a consignment of heroin and weapons.
Acting on this, SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal mobilized police teams and deployed them throughout the border region. Police patrol parties were also dispatched to cover smaller routes and back roads. The alert remained in effect until 10:00 AM on Wednesday. Notably, recent operations by the police, BSF, and other agencies have led to the seizure of 17 kg of heroin, 25 pistols, and even an AK-47 rifle. Search operations in the fields are also ongoing.
