Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has adopted a stern stance regarding the alleged threats made to the Sikh community to repeat an event similar to that of June 1984. Demanding strict action against the individuals involved from the Uttarakhand government, he stated that such elements pose a serious threat to the country’s peace, social harmony, and brotherhood.
Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj emphasized that the alleged anti-Sikh statement and threat issued by Ashish Negi, a resident of Uttarakhand, must be taken seriously. He remarked that issuing such threats to any community is unacceptable and could incite social tension. He noted that the Sikh community has made immense sacrifices for the country’s freedom and defense; therefore, no individual should use such language. He added that such statements reveal a lingering hatred towards the Sikh community in the minds of some people—a sentiment that needs to be curbed in time.
Appeal for restraint during visits
The Jathedar also appealed to the Sikh *Sangat* (congregation) not to fall for any provocations and to maintain restraint while visiting Uttarakhand or other places. He advised them to abide by the law and maintain peace in the event of any contentious situation.
He further stated that it is the responsibility of the Uttarakhand government to ensure the safety of Sikh pilgrims in the state. He asserted that a secure environment must be provided to Sikh or Punjabi pilgrims visiting the state for religious journeys.
The Jathedar noted that, in recent times, objections have been raised in certain places regarding the *Kakaars* (articles of faith) and religious attire of Sikh pilgrims, with attempts made to target them. He expressed concern over subsequent attempts to frame these incidents as a conflict between two communities. Demand for Action Against Mischievous Elements
He demanded that such mischievous elements be identified and subjected to strict legal action so that no one dares to incite religious sentiments or disrupt social harmony in the future. He warned that if effective action is not taken regarding such incidents, the Sikh community might be compelled to make a tough decision concerning travel to Uttarakhand.
Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gaggaj has also directed the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) to initiate legal proceedings in Amritsar regarding the matter of Ashish Negi’s alleged anti-Sikh statement and threat, aiming to send a strong message to such elements through the legal process. He stated that strict action in accordance with the law is essential to maintain social harmony and uphold the dignity of all communities.
