The rising number of theft incidents in the city has raised serious concerns regarding public safety. An atmosphere of fear and insecurity prevails following three separate theft incidents reported across the city on Sunday. The most sensational incident occurred on Rambagh Road, where miscreants allegedly drugged a family before making off with jewelry, cash, and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees. Meanwhile, a Verna car was stolen from the Basant Vihar area, and on Ajit Road, a young man entered a house in broad daylight and stole a geyser. These three incidents occurring in a single day have heightened anxiety among city residents. Police officials state that investigations into all three cases have commenced; evidence is being collected from the crime scenes, and CCTV footage from the vicinity is being scrutinized. The police claim that the accused will soon be identified and arrested.
According to reports, a family residing in a house on Rambagh Road had gone to sleep on Saturday night with the air cooler running. When the family members woke up around 6:00 AM, they found the house ransacked and the locks on their cupboards broken. The affected family reported the theft of approximately 1.5 tola of gold, half a kilogram of silver, ₹12,000–13,000 in cash, and other valuables. The family alleges that the thieves had introduced a stupefying substance into the cooler, causing all household members to fall into a deep sleep; however, this claim has not yet been officially confirmed. The police are investigating the matter. The victims stated that the miscreants searched the entire house at their leisure; they even drank cold water from the refrigerator, suggesting they had remained inside the house for a considerable period.
The second incident took place in the Basant Vihar area, where a resident had parked his Verna car outside his home as usual. Upon waking up in the morning, he found the car missing. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined to trace the accused. The third incident took place around 4 PM on Sunday in Street No. 20 of Ajit Road. According to eyewitnesses, a young man scaled the gate to enter the house and went up to the roof, searching for valuables to steal. Finding nothing of value, he entered the bathroom, ripped out the geyser, and fled. Residents of the area are shocked that the entire incident occurred in broad daylight.
