Last night, near Ganesh Colony on Sodhe Wala Road in Ferozepur City, a speeding private bus carrying pilgrims struck and ran over Veerpal Kaur (40), a resident of Khalsa Colony who was eight months pregnant. Her head was crushed under the bus’s tire, resulting in the deaths of both the woman and her unborn child. She was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur, where doctors declared her dead.
The woman’s relatives and locals alleged that the driver fled the scene after the accident but was chased down and stopped by the public near Kasuri Gate; the bus was subsequently taken to the police station. When confronted, the driver denied having caused any accident.
The deceased woman’s husband stated that his wife was eight months pregnant and had gone to her parental home to get medication. The family staged a protest outside the Ferozepur City police station, demanding that a case be registered against both the driver and the bus owner, and seeking justice. DSP (City) Sukhvinder Singh stated that a case is being registered based on the statements provided by the deceased’s family members.
