A shocking incident came to light on Monday in the Sant Nagari area of Abohar. A man killed his elderly mother—aged around 75—by striking her on the head with a pressure cooker. Following the incident, the accused vandalized the house and began throwing belongings outside. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene; after a struggle, they managed to overpower him and handed him over to the police.
According to reports, Sunil Kumar lived with his mother, Krishna Devi, in Street No. 1 of Sant Nagari. Neighbors stated that Sunil was addicted to alcohol and frequently consumed it. On Monday afternoon, he suddenly began vandalizing the house. During this outburst, he attacked his mother’s head with a pressure cooker. Krishna Devi sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Afterward, the accused started throwing household items outside. When neighbors looked inside, they found Krishna Devi lying in a pool of blood. They apprehended Sunil, tied his hands, and informed the police, who subsequently took him into custody.
Upon receiving news of the incident, City Station House Officer (SHO) Maninder Singh and DSP Harish Kumar arrived at the scene with a police team. The police detained the accused and moved the deceased’s body to the government hospital mortuary. Action is being taken based on the statement of the deceased’s younger son, Vijay Kumar. Vijay Kumar explained that he lived separately from his mother and brother. He noted that Sunil frequently consumed alcohol and suffered from mental health issues, for which he was undergoing treatment. He added that his mother had returned to live with Sunil just two days prior.
Wife and sons have been living separately for six to seven years
According to Vijay Kumar, Sunil had a history of vandalizing the house. Due to this behavior, his wife and two sons had left him about six or seven years ago to live with her parents in Bathinda. Vijay Kumar had also started living separately for the same reason. City Police Station In-charge Maninder Singh stated that action is being taken based on the statement given by the deceased’s son. It has come to light that the accused is mentally disturbed and undergoing medical treatment. The police are investigating the matter, and necessary action will be taken.
