On Saturday evening in Adampur, local MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli, accompanied by his supporters, staged a protest against the police. During the protest, he accused the Adampur DSP and the Station House Officer (SHO) of high-handedness and registering wrongful cases against his party workers and ordinary citizens. The protesters also raised slogans vehemently against the police.
MLA Kotli alleged that the Adampur police are acting as a ‘B-team’ for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He stated that for some time now, workers from opposition parties and the general public have been facing harassment, and police actions are being taken in disregard of the law.
Citing a recent case registered in Chomon village, he alleged that a case was filed against his workers and they were detained at the police station at the behest of the ruling party, whereas individuals from the opposing side were not even summoned for questioning.
The MLA also referred to a dispute concerning a site associated with the ‘Gadri Babas’ (Ghadar movement revolutionaries) in Sanghwal. He alleged that an Anganwadi center had been operating there with everyone’s consent, but some AAP leaders removed the reference to the ‘Gadri Babas’ and renamed it simply as ‘Anganwadi Center.’ Subsequently, cases were registered against several of his associates and villagers.
