The Punjab Congress staged a show of strength in Chandigarh on Tuesday, with claims of 5,000 party workers participating in the event.
In anticipation of the planned march from the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Sector 15 to the residence of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the police implemented stringent security measures. Robust barricading was set up on several routes, disrupting traffic flow and leaving commuters stuck in jams.
The police issued an advisory urging people to postpone their travel if they were planning to head towards PGI, Punjab University, or Sectors 15 and 11, as severe traffic congestion prevails in these areas. Long queues of vehicles, stretching for kilometers, have formed on the roads. Congress supporters and their vehicles began arriving around 10:00 AM; by noon, the surge in vehicle numbers had severely disrupted traffic around Sector 15.
Long queues of vehicles are also visible near Punjab University, the Government College in Sector 11, and the surrounding sectors. Given the current situation, traffic is likely to remain affected in these areas until around 4:00 PM. Residents are urged to check traffic conditions before leaving home and to opt for alternative routes to avoid congestion and unnecessary inconvenience.
