The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has taken an initiative to address the growing problem of encroachments and illegal street vending in different parts of the city. Residents can now report such activities by sending photographs through WhatsApp, enabling the civic authorities to take prompt action.
Under this initiative, citizens can share photographs of illegal roadside stalls, unauthorised street vendors and encroachments on public spaces through the designated WhatsApp channel.
The initiative aims to make the process of reporting civic violations easier and faster. Instead of visiting municipal offices or filing complaints through lengthy procedures, residents can directly share photographic evidence with the concerned authorities.
Once a complaint is received, the Municipal Corporation’s team can examine the matter and take necessary action as per the applicable rules.
Encroachments on roads, footpaths and public spaces often create difficulties for pedestrians and commuters. Unauthorised vending activities can also contribute to traffic congestion and inconvenience for local residents.
Through this WhatsApp-based complaint mechanism, the Municipal Corporation is seeking greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness, accessibility and order in the city.
Residents are encouraged to capture clear photographs of the reported violations and share relevant location details along with their complaints.
However, citizens should use the official WhatsApp contact provided by the Municipal Corporation to ensure that complaints reach the appropriate department.
The initiative is expected to strengthen communication between residents and civic authorities while making complaint reporting more convenient.
