‘Mark Zuckerberg lied’, Parliamentary committee will send defamation notice to META

Date:

India’s Parliamentary Committee will send a defamation summons to META. BJP MP and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Communication-Information Technology Nishikant Dubey said on Tuesday that META should apologize for spreading misinformation. In fact, during a podcast, the CEO of META had said that in the year 2024, the government was toppled in all the countries of the world including India.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared incorrect information related to the results of the Lok Sabha elections last year. During a podcast called ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, Mark Zuckerberg falsely claimed that the year 2024 was a time of turmoil for the world. At the same time, power was toppled in many countries including India.

He said that in the elections held after the Corona epidemic, the government fell in many countries of the world including India. The Government of India has expressed displeasure over this statement of Mark Zuckerberg. The Parliamentary Committee of India is preparing to send a defamation summons to META.

BJP MP and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Communication-Information Technology Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday said that META should apologize for spreading misinformation.

Zuckerberg is giving wrong information to the world: Nishikant Dubey

MP Nishikant Dubey said, “We have decided that we will call the people of META. Zuckerberg has shown by giving a statement that an atmosphere has been created against the government after Covid-19, in which he has also mentioned India. His statement is worrying. Such a statement shows that he is interfering in the democracy of the country and misleading the world by giving wrong information that the BJP-NDA has lost.”

Dubey said that “We have decided that we will call the people of META. They will have to apologize, otherwise our committee will take action. We will talk to the members of the committee and ask them to appear between January 20-24.”

Meta CEO’s claim factually incorrect: Government of India

Earlier, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has also reacted against Mark Zuckerberg’s statement. Ashwini Vaishnav wrote on X, “As the world’s largest democracy, India conducted the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with over 640 million voters. The people of India reiterated their trust in the NDA led by PM Narendra Modi. Zuckerberg’s claim that most of the incumbent governments, including India, lost in the 2024 elections after Covid is factually incorrect.”

What did Zuckerberg say in the podcast?

In a podcast with Joe Rogan, Mark Zuckerberg was discussing the lack of trust in governments after the Covid-19 pandemic. During this, he said that the year 2024 was a big election year. There was a change of power in many countries including India.

Meta CEO further said, “There was some kind of global event in the year. Whether it was due to inflation, economic policies to deal with Covid or the way the government dealt with Covid. It seems that its impact was global.”
