An encounter has taken place between the Special Cell of Jalandhar City Police of Punjab and the henchmen of gangster Vicky Gounder. A gangster has been injured in the incident. At the same time, two of his associates have been arrested. The gangster has a wound on his leg. This police encounter took place near village Jamsher Kheda of Thana Sadar at around 10.10 am today. The team of Special Cell had taken the accused for recovery of weapons. A total of 8 bullets were fired from both sides.
The injured gangster has been identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Jamsher Khas. The police has also arrested 2 associates of the accused. Whose identity has not been revealed by the police yet. The police have recovered 4 illegal weapons and 100 grams of heroin from the accused. Many other senior officials including Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma had reached the spot to investigate the crime scene.
ACP Paramjit Singh said – The team of Special Cell had brought the accused for recovery of weapons. A person named Harpreet Singh has been injured in the incident. The accused has a bullet wound on his leg. Two of his gang members were arrested at night. There are already about 15 FIRs registered against Harpreet Singh.
The team had taken him for weapon recovery
Jaspal Singh, in-charge of the special cell of Jalandhar City Police, said that a few days ago, they had arrested gangster Harpreet Singh alias Harpreet Kheda. Two illegal weapons were recovered from him. After interrogating the accused, the police also arrested two other associates. During interrogation, it was found that the accused had hidden illegal weapons at a place in village Kheda of Jamsher Khas.
In-charge Jaspal Singh said – Based on the information, our team of ten people reached for the raid at 10 am today. When the accused Harpreet reached the crime scene with the weapon recovery, the accused’s weapons were already loaded there. Harpreet picked up the weapon and opened fire on the police. After which the employees somehow saved their lives on the spot.
Incharge said- Harpreet Singh was shot in retaliation
Incharge Jaspal said- Then the police started the whole operation and retaliated. In which Harpreet was shot and 2 illegal weapons were recovered from the crime scene. The accused were on police remand for the last few days. At present, the police is going to register another FIR in the case.
In which the section of attack on police will be added. At the same time, it has been found out in the interrogation that the accused had to target the henchmen of their rival gang with the said weapons. Also, some crimes were to be carried out. At present, the accused are being questioned about further crimes.
Accused booked in extortion, robbery and other cases
Initial investigation has revealed that several cases of extortion, robbery, drug smuggling and attempt to murder are registered against the said accused in various police stations of Punjab. The accused had been arrested in some cases and were yet to be arrested in some.
The accused also used to provide weapons to other members of the gang. At present, two accused are in police custody. A total of 100 grams of heroin has also been recovered from them. This encounter was carried out by Special Cell in-charge Jaspal Singh along with his team. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
