In Punjab, students will be able to get a tenth certificate by passing ITI after eighth. The Technical Education Department is preparing to make two major changes under the new education policy. In this regard, the department has prepared a proposal, which will soon be sent to the Education Minister for final approval after departmental approval.
Under this initiative, there is also a plan to start ITI courses in schools. Similarly, preparations are also being made to provide insurance coverage for safety to all the students doing ITI, so that if any kind of accident happens to them during training, they can get adequate amount for treatment.
There are 137 ITI in Punjab
There are 137 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Punjab, which have a total of 35,201 seats. If we talk about the academic session of the year 2024-25, then the admission in them was 93 percent. At present, after doing a diploma in ITI, the students have to pass all the examinations to get a certificate of higher education. This also wastes the time of the students. This is the reason why this proposal has been prepared to link technical education with the education department. In this, some conditions can be imposed by the education department. For example, it can be made mandatory for students passing ITI diploma to pass the examination in Punjabi or other necessary subjects. All the rules and conditions will be decided by the department in this regard only after departmental approval.
According to the department, starting the study of necessary subjects in all the institutes of technical education and starting technical education courses in schools is also a part of the proposal. Under the National Education Policy, work is being done on this for the overall education system. It can also be implemented for getting the certificate of 10th as well as 12th.
Coverage up to Rs 5 lakh to students
The Technical Education Department has also prepared a proposal to give insurance coverage to ITI students, according to which a proposal has been prepared to provide coverage up to Rs 5 lakh. If any kind of accident happens to the students during studies in ITI, then preparations are being made to give this insurance coverage for their safety. Every year the department will spend Rs 1 crore on this, which will also include death coverage. This proposal will be sent to the Finance Department for approval. It will be implemented immediately only after the approval of the department.
Preparation to increase five thousand more seats
The Technical Education Department is also preparing to increase the seats in ITI. In the year 2024-25 academic session, the department had increased the seats from 28 thousand to 35 thousand. Now preparations are being made to increase these seats to 40 thousand from the next session.
