BJP has won the Chandigarh Mayor election. The alliance of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress has lost. BJP has won the Mayor’s post by cross voting. AAP has accused Congress of betrayal. Punjab Congress had also raised questions on this agreement. The result of Chandigarh Mayor election can also be seen in Delhi Assembly elections.
The reputation of all political parties was at stake in the Mayor election. This election was not limited to Chandigarh only, but its echo was to be heard till the capital Delhi. That is why everyone wanted to win it at any cost.
This was the reason that the leaders of AAP and Congress, who were accusing each other and abusing each other 250 km away in Delhi, were fighting the election together by making an agreement to stop BJP in Chandigarh.
AAP suffered a big loss
BJP leaders kept raising questions on this too. BJP got the Mayor by cross voting in the election and Congress got the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. AAP has suffered the biggest loss. Even the support of Congress could not get AAP the Mayor’s chair. Congress and AAP are fighting separately in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Leaders of both the parties are accusing each other. At the same time, many questions were being raised even before the alliance in Chandigarh. Punjab Congress had also complained to the Delhi High Command raising questions on this agreement. Now after the election results, Punjab AAP has called Congress traitors.
AAP accuses Congress of betrayal
Punjab AAP spokesperson Neel Garg alleged that Congress councilors have done cross voting. BJP’s mayor was elected due to the kindness of Congress. Both Congress and BJP are together. Congress will do the same in Delhi. Their senior and deputy mayor were elected due to the votes of AAP councilors, but they betrayed them on the post of mayor. The bitterness between the two parties has started increasing in Chandigarh as well.
Now the alliance can break before the Delhi elections. BJP will surround both the parties in Delhi. Both the parties can end the agreement by accusing each other due to fear of loss. The Chandigarh agreement was working only because of the local leaders. This time AAP leaders were already aware that the results would not be in their favour.
Many councillors were angry since the formation of the executive. Many councillors including Jasbir Singh Ladi, Poonam Devi, Anju Katyal, Jaswinder Kaur had expressed their displeasure. Later, all of them gathered together in Ropar Lounge. This was the reason why the party declared Premlata as the candidate on the day of nomination.
Efforts were made to postpone the election
Efforts were made to postpone the mayor election because of the Delhi assembly elections. First, AAP Mayor Kuldeep filed a petition in the High Court to extend his tenure. The court also extended his tenure by five days till January 29. After this, he knocked at the door of the Supreme Court for conducting elections with transparency and by raising hands.
