After the Delhi election results, the politics of Punjab has heated up. On Tuesday, AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also held a meeting with the MLAs of Punjab. While on one hand, Congress leader in Punjab and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa has claimed that 30 AAP MLAs are in touch with the Congress. At the same time, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari has also reacted on this matter.
On Tuesday, rejecting the claims of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs being in touch with BJP and Congress, he said that his party (Congress) does not believe in breaking other parties.
However, he insisted that the state leadership of Congress is keeping an eye on the political situation in Punjab. Tiwari targeted the BJP and said that they have a history of horse-trading and breaking parties. He gave the example of Maharashtra, Goa and Manipur.
‘BJP has a history of horse-trading’
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Tiwari said, Bharatiya Janata Party has a history of horse-trading and breaking parties. We have seen this in Maharashtra, Goa, Manipur as well. They will try to do the same in Punjab. As far as the Congress is concerned, we do not believe in breaking parties. Our party’s state leadership is monitoring the situation there.
Earlier today, amid allegations by the opposition in Punjab that the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann could fall anytime, Congress MP Manish Tewari said any kind of political instability in Punjab will have very serious consequences at the national level.
‘Delhi never understood Punjab’
Speaking to ANI, Tewari said it is a tragedy that Delhi has never understood Punjab and unfortunately will never understand Punjab because the state has a different nature, a different culture, a different coordination and it works in a different rhythm.
He also said Punjab is a border state, so it needs to be handled very carefully and the Centre needs to formulate a ‘border policy for border states.’
Any kind of political instability in Punjab will have very serious ramifications at the national level. Punjab is a border state. Our western neighbour is always hyperactive in trying to destroy the peace of Punjab. So, there are some border states that need to be handled very carefully.
BJP wins 48 seats in Delhi election
The BJP won the Delhi Assembly election by a comfortable margin, winning 48 of the 70 assembly seats. The AAP suffered a massive setback, getting only 22 seats.
A huge drop from its previous tally of 62 seats in the 2020 elections. With this historic mandate, the BJP is returning to power in the national capital after 27 years.
