The Haryana government has canceled the Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP) scheme run under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban in the state. This decision has been taken due to the cost of land and multi-story buildings not being feasible in most cities. Under this scheme, flats were to be provided to economically weaker people at cheap rates.
The dream of economically weaker (EWS) people in the state to get flats at cheap rates has been shattered. The Haryana government has canceled the Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP) scheme run under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban in the state.
The scheme was canceled for this reason
Due to the cost of land in the state and multi-story buildings not being feasible in most cities, the Housing for All department of the government canceled this scheme. The department has informed about this to the District Municipal Commissioners and Municipal Corporation Commissioners running the scheme in all the cities by sending letter number HFA/PMAY-U/HAP/2024-25/1845-1846 dated 15-1-2025.
Apart from this, the department has also returned the target received under this scheme from the Central Government. In fact, under Housing for All, the state government had decided to provide flats to the economically weaker people at cheap rates under the Affordable Housing Partnership Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban.
Survey was done door-to-door in 2017
To identify the eligible people in this scheme, a door-to-door survey was also conducted in all the cities in the year 2017. In such a situation, one lakh 80 thousand 879 people were found eligible under this scheme in the entire state, who were to be provided flats for five to seven lakh rupees according to the city by getting multi-storey buildings constructed from private builders as per the government plan.
Under this scheme, a provision was made to give Rs 1.5 lakh from the Central Government and Rs 1 lakh from the Haryana Government to the private builder in return for providing flats to EWS people at cheap rates. But after eight years, the Housing for All Department of Haryana suddenly closed the scheme saying that land is expensive in all the cities of the state.
This is the Affordable Housing Partnership Scheme
The Affordable Housing Partnership Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme (CSS). The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to EWS houses being built by states/union territories/cities in various partnership models including the private sector and industries. Central assistance at the rate of Rs 1.5 lakh per EWS house and Rs 1 lakh assistance from the state government was to be given under this scheme.
There should be at least 250 flats under AHP, out of which at least 35 percent flats should be of EWS category. Priority was to be given to physically handicapped persons, senior citizens, SC/ST/OBC, minorities, single women, transgenders and other vulnerable and vulnerable sections of the society.
