Chandigarh Police and Administration are in alert mode after the terrorist activities taking place in Punjab and the threat of bombing the police stations of Chandigarh. In view of the increasing use of cyber cafes and crimes being committed through the Internet, the administration has implemented strict rules. Under this, now an unknown person will be able to use the Internet at the cafe only after showing Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving license, passport or any other valid identity card.
Chandigarh District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav (IAS) has issued new guidelines for cyber cafe operators, which will be mandatory to follow. This order has been issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 and will remain in force till March 13, 2025.
These are the new rules for internet use in cyber cafes
No unknown person will be able to use the Internet in a cyber cafe without identity verification. The customer will have to show Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving license, passport or any other valid identity card.
Complete information of each customer will have to be recorded in a register, which will include name, address, phone number and identity card information.
A record of all online activities will have to be kept in the main server of the cyber café for at least six months. This data will have to be made available on demand by the administration or police.
If the activity of a customer seems suspicious, the cafe operator will have to immediately inform the police.
It will be mandatory to keep information about which person used which computer.
Strict action will be taken on violation
If a cyber café operator does not follow these rules, strict action will be taken against him under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023 and other legal provisions.
