Now there is no mercy for those who pollute water in Punjab! Will have to pay a fine of up to 15 lakhs; Decision taken in cabinet meeting

Date:

Now, one will not have to go to jail for polluting the water of various rivers, canals etc. in Punjab, rather the government will collect fine from such people. This fine can be from five thousand to fifteen lakh rupees.

In the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the Central Government had amended the Water (Conservation and Prevention of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, after which 18 states have also approved it.

Cause of death will have to be written on the death certificate

Now Punjab has become the 19th state to do so. Similarly, the government has approved amendments in the Birth and Death Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2025.

It will now be mandatory to write the cause of death on the death certificate in the state. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that many times such cases come to the fore in which people get the thumb impressions of long-term ill people registered in their names for property. Therefore it was necessary to do so.

He said that it is necessary to get the certificate within one year after birth but if for some reason someone is unable to do so, then he has to go to the magistrate and give a valid reason but now this certificate can be obtained by giving a self-declaration to the DC of the concerned districts.
The Cabinet has designated Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation as the only agency to provide digital signatures to government departments and institutions.
The Corporation has also been designated for the purchase of IT and ITEG. The Cabinet has also approved the retention of the temporary post of Officer on Special Duty (Litigation) in the Personnel Department.
Approval given to the formation of Punjab Teerth Yatra Samiti
