On the breaking of the wall of the historic Rock Garden built by Padma Shri Nek Chand in Chandigarh, his granddaughter Priyanka Saini has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Through this letter, Priyanka, who lives in New York, has expressed concern over the neglect and destruction of the Rock Garden. She has appealed to preserve it.
Priyanka wrote that she is writing this letter not only on behalf of her family but also as a conscious citizen. She alleged that the administration quietly broke the wall of the Rock Garden in the darkness of the night. Also, decades old trees are being cut, all the things in this garden are interconnected.
Broke in the name of upgrading
She mentioned in the letter that the door through which Prime Minister Modi entered the Rock Garden with French President Francois Hollande in 2016 has also been broken in the name of ‘upgrading’. Priyanka said that Nek Chand cherished this artwork for 57 years and it has achieved an important place on the tourism map of India.
Rock Garden after Taj Mahal
Rock Garden is the second most visited tourist destination in India after Taj Mahal. Around 15 lakh tourists visit here every year, which generates revenue of crores of rupees. Priyanka has appealed to the Prime Minister to immediately intervene to save this heritage from destruction.
