Fireworks banned in Chandigarh amid Indo-Pak tension, no one will be able to burn crackers for 2 months; Why did the DM give the order?

Date:

In view of the security situation arising after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, the Chandigarh administration has taken a major precautionary step.

Fireworks banned in Chandigarh till July 7

District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav (IAS) has issued an order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023, banning firecrackers and any kind of fireworks in Chandigarh from 9 May 2025 to 7 July 2025.

The order states that burning firecrackers during weddings, religious festivals and other events is common, but in the current sensitive environment, the noise caused by them creates an illusion of bomb, drone or missile attack and creates an atmosphere of fear among the general public, which may worsen the law and order situation.

Order implemented with immediate effect

Therefore, in view of public safety, there is a complete ban on bursting any kind of firecrackers, bombs, fireworks etc. Violation of the order will attract strict action under Section 223 of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure, 2023 and other legal provisions.

This order has come into effect with immediate effect and it will be communicated to the public through the District Magistrate Office, District Court premises and local newspapers.
