Date:

The central government has made a major administrative reshuffle in the Chandigarh Police and transferred IG Rajkumar Singh to Delhi. AGM UT cadre 2006 batch IPS officer Pushpendra Kumar has been appointed as the new IG of Chandigarh. He may take charge soon. Also, 2014 batch IPS officer KM Priyanka has also been transferred from Delhi to Chandigarh. Rajkumar Singh is a 2004 batch officer of AGM UT cadre. He took charge as IG in Chandigarh Police in June 2022. Currently he was also looking after the additional charge of DGP.

Earlier in 2023, the then DGP Surendra Singh Yadav was also transferred by the Union Home Ministry before the completion of his tenure. Yadav sent the luggage at night and vacated the bungalow the next morning and quietly left for Delhi. After this, the government transferred the DGP. Without appointing any new officer to the post, IG Rajkumar Singh was given the charge till further orders.

Viral letter of soldiers created uproar

The controversy deepened during the tenure of former Chandigarh DGP Surendra Yadav when a letter against him went viral on social media. Abusive words were used against him in this letter. After investigation, a case was registered against three UT police personnel, but the matter is still in cold storage and no concrete action has been taken against the accused soldiers.
