Liquor is cheaper in Chandigarh than in Punjab. At the same time, many people are constantly engaged in smuggling liquor from Chandigarh to Punjab to earn huge profits. This work is being done with a complete strategy. Due to this, Punjab is losing revenue.
More than 35 cases of liquor smuggling have come to light in the last one month. Now a letter has been written by the Punjab government to the Chandigarh administration, asking to take immediate action in this matter.
This letter has been written by the Commissioner of the Excise Department of Punjab. A list of 35 cases has been given with the letter. It has been said in the letter that the Excise Department had also seized 44 liquor boxes,
on which the hologram of track and trace has been deliberately erased. It is clear from this that this smuggling is happening on a large scale with a complete strategy.
Such cases have come up before
A few days ago, the Chandigarh administration was informed about a similar smuggling case by the Assistant Excise Commissioner Ropar, in which a case was registered on January 13, 2025. He further said that many such cases have been sent to the UT administration.
Despite this, smuggling cases are increasing. He told the UT Secretary, “Such cases should be dealt with strictly so that smuggling can be stopped.” However, Punjab Excise itself is in an active mode. Nakas and checking campaigns are being conducted at night. A large amount of liquor is being caught.
A single bottle of liquor cannot go from Chandigarh to Punjab
Vehicles like trucks, cars, motorcycles, even ambulances are used to transport liquor in Punjab. Apart from this, liquor is transported hidden in water bottles, milk cartons or other goods. Many times liquor is transported from Chandigarh to Punjab in trains.
In Punjab, if a person is caught selling liquor from Chandigarh or any other state without a license or permit, he can face a heavy fine and legal action: penalty. During this, the fine can be from 50,000 to 2,00,000 rupees.
Apart from this, there can be imprisonment from 3 months to 3 years. At the same time, the vehicle in which the liquor is caught can also be confiscated. All this action is taken under the Punjab Excise Act.
