A hospital employee died on the spot while two others were seriously injured in a road accident that took place near Sai Mandir in Sector-29, Chandigarh on Wednesday night at around 11:30 pm. The accident took place when a high-speed KTM and a Bullet bike collided head-on.
In the accident, ESI hospital employee Vinay, who was driving the KTM, died on the spot due to serious head injuries, while Bittu, a resident of Ramdarbar, who was sitting behind him, and Shashank, a resident of Baltana, who was driving the Bullet, were seriously injured. All three were immediately taken to GMCH in Sector-32, where doctors declared Vinay dead.
The bikes kept dragging for 35 meters
According to the police, both the bike riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, but the collision was so severe that the helmets were shattered. After the collision, both the bikes kept dragging on the road for about 30-35 meters.
The incident took place at around 11:30 pm. The KTM was going from Sector-29 towards Sector 29/30 light point, while the Bullet was coming from Sector 29/30 light point towards Sector-29. Meanwhile, the KTM driver, while overtaking at high speed, hit the Bullet from the front.
Shashank, the Bullet rider, and Bittu, who was sitting behind on the KTM, are currently admitted in GMCH-32. Bittu has multiple fractures in his leg, while Shashank is also not in a position to speak.
On receiving the information about the incident, SHO Satnam Singh of Industrial Area Police Station reached the spot and forensic and CFSL teams were called to investigate.
