Punjab Police have busted a cross-border smuggling module. During a major operation, the state’s Counter Intelligence (Counter Intelligence) arrested Gurjant Singh and his accomplice, Gurveel Singh, who were smuggling heroin and weapons from Pakistan across the border. 2.5 kg of heroin and five modern pistols were recovered from their possession. This disclosure was made by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. Counter Intelligence had information that the two accused were in contact with smugglers based in Pakistan, from where they smuggled drugs and weapons to various areas of the state. Acting on this matter, they were arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were in contact with Pakistani smugglers and were supplying drugs and weapons at their behest.
He stated that Pakistan is not desisting from its nefarious activities and is trying to spoil the atmosphere in Punjab. However, the Punjab Police, with its vigilant intelligence agencies, is thwarting all their plans. Currently, a case has been registered against the accused and they have been taken on police remand for investigation on court orders, and their interrogation is ongoing.
