The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Superintendent Balwant Singh, posted at Punjab Roadways Depot-1 in Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹40,000. A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson stated that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a retired Punjab Roadways driver.
The complainant stated that the Superintendent demanded ₹50,000 in exchange for preparing his overtime bill before his retirement. Upon the complainant’s appeal, the Superintendent agreed to accept ₹40,000 for the work, but was unwilling to pay the bribe. He further alleged that the accused had already embezzled ₹154,000 from him in installments during the hearing of his case in the Labor Court.
The spokesperson said that after verifying the complaint, a vigilance team from the Jalandhar Range laid a trap, during which the said superintendent was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. In this regard, the Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the said superintendent in the Jalandhar Range.
