Big news for teachers in Punjab who were posted to their preferred locations under temporary duty (arzi duty). The Punjab government has now decided to end 1,000 such temporary duties. Under this, all teachers will be sent back to their original postings by December 2025.
According to sources, these teachers were posted to their preferred stations due to political influence and bureaucratic pressure. Now, following the government’s order, they will be forced to leave their preferred stations. According to reports, this process has been initiated, and all remaining teachers will be sent back to their original locations by December.
The Education Department states that due to the influence of MLAs, senior officials, and judicial officers, there was constant pressure to extend temporary duties. This led to a severe teacher shortage in the Pind (rural) and border districts, undermining the principle of equality in education. Education Minister Harjot Bains clarified that temporary duties are now strictly prohibited under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Senior department officials said the move was necessary to ensure equitable and equitable deployment of teachers in the state.
