Acting on a tip-off, the Food Safety Department team raided a house in the Sham Nagar area and recovered approximately 50 kilograms of adulterated ghee, dried milk, and cream, which were being used to make substandard ghee. All of the items were immediately seized, and a detailed investigation was initiated.
According to health officials, preliminary investigations also revealed that the individuals involved had previously engaged in illegal activities of manufacturing counterfeit food products. Actions were taken against them under the Food and Safety Act in 2017 and 2020. Additionally, they were declared absconders by a court in 2023. This information clearly indicates that they had been compromising public health for a long time. During the raid, a woman associated with the gang was detained with the assistance of the police station at the Bus Stand Police Station.
The Food Safety team collected samples of ghee, cream, and dried milk on the spot. These samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Upon receiving the report, strict action will be taken against the individuals involved in accordance with the Food and Safety Act. Food Safety Officers Yogesh Goyal, Divyajot Kaur, and Harsimran Kaur were present during the operation, assisting the police team in ensuring the successful operation.
Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur stated that consuming adulterated ghee, cream, and other foodstuffs made with substandard ingredients during the festive season can pose a serious threat to public health. Such illegal activities not only endanger people’s lives but also place a significant burden on the healthcare system. A zero-tolerance policy is being implemented against them. Dr. Ramandeep Kaur appealed to the public that if anyone notices suspicious food items while purchasing sweets, ghee, or other food items during the festive season, they should immediately contact the Food Safety Department.
