An auto-rickshaw gang has once again become fearlessly active in the metropolis. Two robbers, posing as passengers at Ghantaghar Chowk, attempted to steal a man’s mobile phone and wallet, but this time, luck ran out. The passenger, with the help of bystanders, displayed bravery and chased them down, catching them.
According to reports, a man named Gurnam Singh boarded an auto-rickshaw from Ghantaghar Chowk to Pratap Chowk. A young man was already inside. The driver changed directions and turned the auto towards Dandi Swami Chowk instead of Pratap Chowk. A young man sitting behind him seized the opportunity and stole his wallet from Gurnam Singh’s pocket. Realizing the theft, Gurnam Singh immediately raised an alarm and apprehended the man. The driver then sped away.
During the scuffle, the accused pushed Gurnam Singh onto the road and fled with the auto. However, Gurnam Singh remained undeterred and began chasing them on a passerby’s bike. After a three-kilometer chase, the two men were apprehended near Bharat Nagar Chowk. People gathered at the scene beat them up and later handed them over to the police. Police have detained the accused and begun questioning them.
Officials say this gang may be linked to several recent incidents. Gurnam Singh said he had heard reports of such gangs before, but was shocked to see the incident happen. He said if he hadn’t been brave, this gang might have targeted someone else. Police have appealed to the public to avoid riding in unknown autos and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
