A worker died tragically while working at a factory in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area Phase 1. The deceased, identified as Bal Mukund Ojha (42), a resident of Halomajra, worked as a packing engineer at the factory. A heavy iron hook fell on his head at around 1 pm on Wednesday, killing him. He was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife and five children, four of whom are in school and one who was recently born.
Manav, president of the union working in the area, stated that accidents occur daily in the industrial area, primarily due to a lack of safety equipment and the company’s negligence. Furthermore, the Labor Department does not regularly inspect factories. The deceased’s family accused the company of not having any officials visit despite sitting at the Sector 32 hospital for hours. The family staged a strong protest outside the hospital and demanded compensation of Rs 1.5 crore from the company along with the expenses of the children’s education and jobs.
