(Archana Sethi) Continuing the massive campaign “War Against Drugs” launched to eradicate drug abuse from the state for the 230th consecutive day, the Punjab Police today raided 326 locations across the state. A total of 57 FIRs were registered and 59 drug traffickers were arrested. With this, the total number of drug traffickers arrested in the last 230 days has risen to 33,280.
During these raids, 2.1 kilograms of heroin, 1598 narcotic pills/capsules, and drug money worth ₹3.17 lakh were recovered from the drug traffickers. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state. To oversee this war against drugs, the state government has also constituted a five-member Cabinet sub-committee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
During this operation, over 120 teams of over 1,000 police personnel, under the supervision of 66 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 326 locations across the state. During the day-long operation, police teams also interrogated 349 suspects.
The state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy to eradicate drug abuse – enforcement, de-addiction, and prevention. Under the “De-addiction” campaign, the Punjab Police today prepared 28 individuals for de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
