Punjab: Drivers Beware! This Bridge is Closed to Traffic
Due to damage to the slab of the bridge over the Bhakra Canal near Chupki village, and for the safety of the public, Bhakra Main Line officials have declared the Chupki-Gurdialpura bridge unsafe and closed it to traffic.
According to information received, the bridge, located at Bhakra Main Line’s marker number 376800, connects Chupki and Gurdialpura villages via Badshahpur and Khanori, as well as dozens of villages along the State Highway Samana-Patran, and also provides access to Guhla and Kaithal (Haryana). Hundreds of vehicles, including light and heavy vehicles, school buses, cars, and motorcycles, cross this bridge daily. Therefore, due to its dilapidated condition, the bridge was closed from Wednesday afternoon.
According to people who use the bridge, the closure of this bridge, and the earlier closure of the bridge at Jodamajra village, will force them to travel a considerable distance and use other bridges. They have demanded that the government immediately repair the unsafe bridges. BML SDO Kumar Dhawan confirmed the damage to the bridge’s slab and stated that traffic has been stopped on the bridge and the matter has been reported to higher authorities.
