Police have taken strict action against an NRI father and son residing in Canada. The troubles for NRI Jagman Samra and his son Harkirat Singh have increased further. According to reports, the Ludhiana police have issued a lookout circular (LOC) against both of them. This action was taken against them on charges of launching a fake cryptocurrency and being involved in a fraud network linked to human trafficking. In the same case, the police have also arrested four of Samra’s close associates: Kartik Mittal, Parmel Singh, Gurpreet Singh Chahal, and Bachittar Singh.
The FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on October 24th. According to the complaint, Jagman Samra launched a fake crypto coin called ‘5K’ and defrauded people of crores of rupees by luring them with promises of high profits. The police also suspect that the money was sent to Canada through a hawala network. It is being said that Samra had opened investment centers in several cities of Punjab, including Ludhiana. Investigating agencies suspect that this network was also active in human trafficking and defrauded people by promising them Canadian visas. Currently, the police are investigating how many people have been affected in this case.
It is worth noting that Jagman Samra had posted an objectionable video on social media. A few days after this controversy, an FIR was registered against him at the Ludhiana Cyber Crime Police Station on October 24th. This case was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Harinderpal Singh. The FIR includes serious sections related to fraud and forgery against Samra and his network. These include sections 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 465 (preparing forged documents), 468 (forgery with intent to defraud), and 471 (using forged documents) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). Investigating agencies say the video controversy triggered the case, but complaints had already been received against Samra regarding fraud and illegal activities. Now, the police are investigating all these angles together. It’s worth noting that an FIR was also registered against Samra at the State Cyber Police Station in Mohali for allegedly creating a fake video of CM Mann.
