A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, met with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today regarding the Punjab University issue. During the meeting, the delegation discussed the decision to dissolve the University’s Senate and Syndicate.
Speaking to the media, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the central government has weakened the democratic system, affecting millions of students and causing harm to nearly 200 colleges in Punjab. He alleged that the central government harbors deep-seated animosity towards Punjab. Cheema further stated that the central government had previously attempted to seize control of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), and now their sights are set on Punjab’s universities. He affirmed that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab will fight this battle together.
AAP MP Meet Hayer, also present at the meeting, said that the people of Punjab are deeply and emotionally connected to Punjab University, yet attempts are being made to seize control of it in an unconstitutional manner. He stated that Punjab is repeatedly subjected to discrimination. He warned the central government to stop testing Punjab’s patience.
