Chandigarh bomb threat: 26 schools receive threatening emails, no explosives found
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said that the email IDs from which the threatening messages were sent are being investigated by the city’s cyber cell
As many as 26 schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, prompting the evacuation of students and staff and triggering extensive anti-sabotage checks by police.
After thorough inspections, no suspicious or explosive material was found at any of the locations, police said.
The matter is currently under investigation and appropriate legal action is being undertaken according to the law, they said.
Speaking to reporters, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said calls were received from 26 schools regarding bomb threat emails. Following alerts to control room 112, local police teams, fire brigades, ambulances and bomb disposal squads were rushed to the affected schools, she said.
She said that the email IDs from which the threatening messages were sent are being investigated by the city’s cyber cell.
“The police are actively tracing all digital leads to identify the perpetrators,” she said. In response to these threats, an FIR has been registered at Sector 17 police station, and the investigation is ongoing.
When asked about previous threats received by the high court and district court, SSP Kaur stated that those investigations are still underway. She said the police are working to connect all leads to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the incidents.
The SSP appealed to school administrations, students and parents to remain calm. “There is no need to panic. Chandigarh police are fully alert, and security measures have been strengthened at all schools. Teams are continuously inspecting school premises, and the situation is under constant monitoring,” she said.
Authorities, earlier in a release, said that public safety was the top priority and that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately.
Parents and students have been advised to cooperate with security personnel and follow guidelines issued by school authorities.
The police have assured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent any untoward incidents and that continuous monitoring would continue.
