New Twist in Ludhiana’s Dhawan Hospital Case: Hospital’s Statement Alters the Scenario

Date:

The ongoing dispute surrounding the death of Satpal Singh alias Pala (40) outside Dhawan Hospital in Jain Colony now appears to be moving towards a resolution. The situation is de-escalating following a statement from the hospital management, in which they acknowledged potential errors and agreed to face punitive action should negligence be proven during the post-mortem examination and subsequent investigation.

According to reports, the family members alleged that Satpal Singh was admitted to the hospital on the 15th, after which his condition steadily deteriorated. The family leveled serious allegations of medical negligence regarding his treatment, specifically raising questions concerning the surgical procedure performed on him. They contended that the patient’s condition turned critical—ultimately resulting in his death—due to the failure to arrange for timely and appropriate medical treatment and surgery.

Throughout this entire episode, the family members staged a sit-in protest outside the hospital, effectively blocking the main road. Consequently, the area witnessed a prolonged traffic jam, and vehicular movement in Basti Jodhewal, Jain Colony, and surrounding areas was completely disrupted. Vehicles remained stranded for hours, causing immense inconvenience to the general public.

In a statement issued by Dhawan Hospital, the management expressed their apologies should any errors be discovered in the treatment provided, and pledged their full cooperation with the investigation. Furthermore, they stated that if negligence is substantiated following the post-mortem examination, they are prepared to accept the ensuing legal consequences. The police have also taken note of the consensus reached between the two parties and have indicated that further action will be determined once the post-mortem report is received. According to the family, the deceased, Satpal Singh, is survived by his wife and five children—three daughters and two sons. It is reported that the entire family was financially dependent on him; as a result, this tragic incident has had a profound and devastating impact on the family.

The family members had initially leveled grave allegations of negligence against the hospital regarding the treatment and surgery—allegations that served as the catalyst for the entire dispute and the subsequent protest demonstrations. For the time being, however, with a consensus having been reached, the matter appears to be settling down.
