Major Incident on Jammu-Amritsar National Highway: Haryana Roadways Bus Crashes into Shops

Date:

A horrific accident occurred in Pathankot, where an out-of-control Haryana Roadways bus crashed into a row of shops. According to reports, the speeding Haryana Roadways bus suddenly lost control near Madhopur on the Jammu-Amritsar National Highway; it subsequently smashed through the shutters of roadside shops and plowed inside. CCTV footage of the accident has also surfaced.

**The Cause of the Accident**
The impact caused walls at the scene to collapse, and valuable merchandise inside the shops was extensively damaged. Furthermore, several people sustained injuries in the mishap. A crowd of onlookers gathered at the site immediately following the accident. It is reported that the Haryana Roadways bus was traveling from Jammu to Pathankot when the driver suddenly dozed off at the wheel. As a result, the bus spiraled out of control, first crashing into “Pawan Motors”—a shop located along the highway—before smashing into and entering “Bittu Electrician’s” shop.

**CCTV Footage of the Accident Surfaces**
CCTV footage capturing this terrifying scene has now emerged. The entire incident was recorded by a surveillance camera installed at a nearby shop. The footage clearly shows the speeding bus crashing into the shops and barreling inside. Moments before the crash, a car had passed by the spot, narrowly escaping being struck by the bus.

**Passengers Sent Onward in Other Buses**
Reports indicate that there were several passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident. The sudden and violent nature of the crash caused passengers to scream and panic, creating an atmosphere of chaos and commotion in the area. Fortunately, there was no loss of life; all passengers sustained only minor injuries. Following the accident, arrangements were made to transport the passengers to their destinations via other buses.

**Police Arrive at the Scene and Take Action**
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Sujanpur Police rushed to the scene and impounded the bus. The police detained the bus driver and took him to the police station. A formal complaint has been registered based on the statements provided by the shopkeepers. During the proceedings, the shopkeepers informed the driver that they would refrain from initiating legal action against him if he agreed to compensate them for the damages incurred. Even after causing this accident, the driver and conductor made no mention of compensating for the damages. Currently, the shopkeepers have lodged a written complaint against the driver at the Sujanpur police station.
