Renowned School Forces Student to Stand in Sun for Two Periods; Distressed Student Takes Drastic Step

A student from Jhanda Lubana village in the Kahnuwan block of Gurdaspur district ended his life after being driven to despair by the administration of a renowned private school in the town of Dasuya.

**Student Forced to Stand in the Sun for Two Periods**
According to reports, 15-year-old Navjot Singh was a student at a prestigious private school in the nearby city of Dasuya. On April 27, the school administration subjected him to severe punishment for a minor infraction, forcing him to stand in the scorching sun for the duration of two class periods. Overwhelmed by this ordeal, Navjot Singh ingested a poisonous substance and was subsequently admitted to a hospital. After battling for his life for several days during treatment, he passed away.

**Funeral Performed with Traditional Wedding Adornments**
Following this tragic incident, the family is inconsolable with grief. The family members performed Navjot Singh’s final rites after adorning him with a *Sehra* (traditional wedding headgear). Meanwhile, students from the school who attended the funeral shed light on the incident, exposing the excesses committed by the school management. They demanded that justice be served to Navjot’s family and that strict action be taken against the school administration. On the other hand, Kulwant Singh Mann, DSP of Bhaini Mian Khan, stated that the police have registered a case against the school management, and further action is underway.
