In an alert issued at 7:00 AM on Friday (May 22, 2026) by the Chandigarh center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a possibility of strong winds, lightning, and rainfall has been indicated for several areas across Punjab.
This alert will remain in effect until 10:45 AM. According to the Weather Department, strong winds gusting between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour may sweep through certain regions, while light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in numerous locations.
The Weather Department has issued an alert for moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in the regions of Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Samrala, Ludhiana West, Rupnagar, Chamkaur Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, and Garhshankar. A possibility of lightning strikes has also been indicated for these areas. Furthermore, several other regions—including Barnala, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Mohali, Chandigarh, Kharar, Ludhiana East, Phillaur, Raikot, Jagraon, Nakodar, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Dasuya, and Nangal—are likely to experience light rainfall and winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. The rainfall and strong winds are expected to lead to a drop in temperature, potentially offering residents some relief from the heat.
