An elderly woman returning home with rations from a depot in the Gaushala Road area of Bathinda district was targeted by an unidentified snatcher. The accused first engaged the woman in conversation, led her to a secluded spot, snatched the gold earrings she was wearing, and fled. The incident has sparked panic and outrage in the area.
According to reports, Kanta Rani (wife of Varinder Kumar), a resident of Bhagta Bhaika, was returning home with rations from a government depot on the evening of June 5. On the way, an unidentified young man stopped her. Eyewitness accounts suggest the man initiated a conversation and, while distracting her with his talk, led her towards the Gaushala area. It is reported that as soon as they reached a secluded location, the man suddenly snatched the gold earrings from the woman’s ears. When she resisted, the accused pushed her, causing her to fall onto the road. He then fled the scene. The incident happened so quickly that the woman did not even have a chance to recover her composure. After the incident, the victim informed people nearby. Locals gathered at the scene, assisted the woman, and reported the matter to the police.
Police working to identify the snatcher
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect’s movements following the incident were captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The police are now attempting to identify and arrest the accused using the footage. Officials state that several important clues have been obtained from the footage, and the case is likely to be solved soon.
