A serious incident occurred late Friday night in the Shobhi Tola area (Ward No. 1) of Shahpur town, under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station in Bhojpur district, after miscreants set fire to a motorcycle parked outside a house.
While the family was attempting to extinguish the fire, the motorcycle’s fuel tank exploded, causing burn injuries to seven members of the same family, including a married couple. All the injured are currently undergoing treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital.
The injured include 45-year-old Ravindra Singh, his 40-year-old wife Dharmshila Devi, their 14-year-old daughter Anshu Kumari, his 75-year-old mother Chandmuni Devi, his 53-year-old brother Virendra Yadav, and his nephews Ravishankar Yadav (26) and Ashish Kumar (12). All of them are residents of Shobhi Tola, Shahpur.
Recounting the incident, Ravishankar Yadav stated that on Friday night, he had parked his Honda motorcycle outside the house as usual and gone to the roof with his family to sleep. Late at night, the motorcycle suddenly caught fire. The family woke up upon seeing the smoke and flames and rushed downstairs to try and extinguish the fire. During this attempt, the motorcycle’s fuel tank exploded with a loud blast, engulfing those nearby in flames and causing burn injuries. Family members hurriedly rushed the injured to Ara Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Ravishankar Yadav has alleged that miscreants deliberately set the motorcycle on fire due to an ongoing enmity. However, the perpetrators have not yet been identified. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter following the report of the incident.
