Voting for the municipal council elections in Gurdaspur district commenced in a peaceful atmosphere on Saturday morning. Long queues of voters were seen at polling stations in the Gurdaspur, Dinanagar, and Qadian municipal councils right from the start. A large number of people—including youth, women, and the elderly—arrived at the polling stations with enthusiasm to exercise their right to vote.
The administration has put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure the elections are conducted fairly and peacefully. Additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations across the district, while senior officials are continuously monitoring the entire electoral process. Voting is being held for 29 wards of the Gurdaspur Municipal Council, 15 wards of the Dinanagar Municipal Council, and 15 wards of the Qadian Municipal Council. Voting began at 8:00 AM and will continue until 4:00 PM. Vote counting will take place immediately after voting concludes, and the results will be declared.
In this regard, SSP Aditya stated that robust security measures have been implemented to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully and fairly. Adequate police personnel have been deployed at all polling stations, and the police force is fully alert to handle any untoward incidents. He also appealed to voters to exercise their franchise without any fear or pressure.
