Two shooting incidents in the city within a single day have once again raised serious questions regarding law and order. This marks the second firing incident reported in the last 24 hours. The latest case occurred in the Dashmesh Nagar area of Bastiyat, where unidentified assailants fired multiple rounds at a 22-year-old youth named Saurav.
According to preliminary information, Saurav was standing in the street outside his home when the attackers arrived and suddenly opened fire. He sustained serious injuries from the gunfire. The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack. Locals rushed the injured youth to the Civil Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment; doctors are closely monitoring his condition.
Sources indicate that the assailants are believed to be residents of the Kala Sanghian Road area, although the police have not yet officially confirmed this. The police are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and questioning eyewitnesses to identify and arrest the accused as soon as possible.
This broad-daylight shooting has created an atmosphere of panic in the area. Residents feel unsafe and are expressing concern over the rising number of criminal incidents. Notably, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal are scheduled to visit Jalandhar tomorrow. Against this backdrop, the second consecutive shooting incident within 24 hours has cast serious doubts on the city’s law and order situation. The police are currently investigating the matter and conducting raids at various locations to apprehend the accused; the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
