Amidst the scorching heat and rising temperatures in Punjab, a tragic incident has been reported from Bathinda. A young man, who supported his family by selling fruits and vegetables on the roadside, fell ill due to the extreme heat. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but passed away during treatment. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area.
The deceased has been identified as Angrej, son of Nanke. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, he worked as a fruit and vegetable vendor in Bathinda to earn a livelihood. Reports indicate that at the time of the incident, he was selling his produce from a cart in a lane near a petrol pump on GT Road.
**Health Deteriorates in Intense Heat**
According to eyewitnesses, the area was experiencing severe heat and intense sunlight during the afternoon. Suddenly, Angrej’s health deteriorated, and he collapsed on the road. The incident caused panic among the bystanders. People immediately alerted the ambulance team of the ‘Naujawan Welfare Society,’ a social service organization. Upon receiving the information, the ambulance team arrived at the scene and rushed the young man to the Civil Hospital in Bathinda. Doctors initiated primary treatment, but his condition remained critical. He was subsequently referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, for advanced care.
**Passed Away During Treatment**
Family members and acquaintances had hoped for his recovery, but he passed away around 9:30 PM while undergoing treatment. The news of his death came as a devastating blow to his family. Meanwhile, health experts have advised the public to exercise extreme caution during this period of intense heat.
Doctors advise against venturing out in the sun unnecessarily during the afternoon. It is essential to drink plenty of water, keep the body hydrated, and cover one’s head when going outdoors. Workers operating in the open, street vendors, and the elderly, in particular, should adopt measures to protect themselves from the heat in order to avoid serious health issues caused by heatwaves and high temperatures.
