A sensation gripped the Sarhali area of Tarn Taran district when the decomposed body of a 22-year-old woman, who worked in an orchestra troupe, was recovered from a locked room. The deceased’s grandmother has accused her own elder granddaughter and the latter’s associate of the murder. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a murder case and initiated an investigation.
In her statement to the police, Bir Kaur, a resident of Thatha village, stated that her son Balwant Singh had passed away about 20 to 22 years ago. Subsequently, her daughter-in-law left, abandoning her three daughters, whom Bir Kaur raised herself. According to Bir Kaur, her granddaughter Harman Kaur had been married to a young man from the Abohar area but had returned to live in her village following a dispute with her in-laws. To earn a living, she worked in orchestra troupes and would often stay away from home for days at a time for work-related engagements.
Missing since May 25
According to family members, on the morning of May 25, around 9:00 AM, Harman Kaur’s elder sister, Mandeep Kaur, took her along, saying she was taking her to a performance. Harman Kaur never returned home after that, and the family could not find any information about her whereabouts.
Bir Kaur stated that it was Mandeep Kaur who informed her yesterday evening that Harman Kaur’s body was lying in a room of an unoccupied house in the Sarhali area. Upon receiving this information, she went to the site with family members and villagers. There, Harman Kaur’s body was found in a decomposed state on a bed inside a locked room. The grandmother alleged that her granddaughter was murdered by Mandeep Kaur and her associate, Jashanpreet Singh (alias Jassi). In her statement to the police, she demanded strict action against both individuals. Binderjit Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarhali Police Station, stated that a murder case has been registered against Mandeep Kaur and Jashanpreet Singh, alias Jassi, based on the complaint. The body has been taken into custody, and the post-mortem process has been initiated. The police are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
