Thieves in the city have become so emboldened that they no longer hesitate to target government health centers alongside ordinary homes and shops. The latest incident comes from Kakowal village, where thieves targeted an Ayushman Arogya Kendra (Health Center). The cunning thieves stole valuable electrical wiring and copper piping by cutting them from three air conditioners (ACs) installed at the center. The theft came to light the following morning when the center’s Medical Officer arrived for duty. Upon receiving the information, the Jodewal police registered a case against unknown thieves and initiated an investigation.
In the complaint lodged with the police, Medical Officer Dr. Preetpal Singh stated that he is posted at the Ayushman Arogya Kendra in Kakowal village (Ludhiana). As per his routine, he had securely locked the center after clinic hours on June 15 and returned home. Three ACs were installed in the clinic rooms for the convenience of patients and staff. The complainant stated that when he arrived for duty around 8:00 AM the next day—June 16—and opened the clinic door, he was shocked by what he saw. All three ACs were non-functional; a closer inspection revealed that an unknown, cunning thief had taken advantage of the darkness to enter the premises. The thieves had skillfully cut and removed the valuable electrical wiring and copper gas-supply pipes from all three ACs before fleeing the scene.
Following this incident of theft and damage to government property, the Medical Officer immediately informed the local police. A police team arrived at the site, inspected the scene, and recorded statements. Police officials stated that a case has been registered against unknown thieves under serious charges. Footage from CCTV cameras installed at the health center and along nearby routes is being examined to track down the thieves, so that the cunning culprits can be arrested and put behind bars as soon as possible.
