Minister Harjot Bains’ surprise inspection in Moga exposes poor sanitation; show-cause notice issued to Municipal Corporation Commissioner

Date:

Under the Punjab government’s ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, Local Bodies Minister Harjot Singh Bains conducted a surprise inspection of Moga city on Tuesday morning. Upon finding piles of garbage in the open and poor sanitation conditions at several locations, he took a stern view and directed that a show-cause notice be issued to the Moga Municipal Corporation Commissioner.

Minister Harjot Singh Bains toured various areas of the city to assess the sanitation system and interacted with local residents. During the inspection, garbage was found accumulated at several spots—a situation contrary to the cleanliness standards set by the state government. Expressing displeasure, the Minister stated that any negligence regarding sanitation would not be tolerated. He noted that the government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ with the aim of making cities clean and organized. He emphasized that this campaign would not remain confined to paperwork but would ensure effective action on the ground. He made it clear that the public deserves better amenities and that officials failing to discharge their duties would be held accountable.

Harjot Singh Bains stated that he is personally monitoring this technology-driven cleanliness campaign. Under the initiative, field visits between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM have been made mandatory for all officials, ranging from Municipal Corporation Commissioners to Executive Officers. Additionally, each city has been divided into 10-kilometer zones, with specific responsibilities assigned to designated supervisory officers.

The Minister stated that surprise inspections would continue regularly to improve sanitation in the cities. He remarked that sanitation workers are the backbone of urban development and that the government is committed to elevating all Punjab cities to the highest cleanliness standards with their cooperation. He reiterated that cleanliness is non-negotiable and that the government would continue to act strictly in this regard.
